An important approach to conserving and protecting land is to negotiate conservation covenants with land owners. The Bowen Island Conservancy is currently the co-holder of two conservation covenants, and is pursuing a proactive approach to obtaining more.

There are already a number of conservation covenants of various sorts in place on Bowen Island, but there is no existing and easily accessible inventory of these covenants. We have therefore launched a pilot project, working with the Municipality, to ascertain what is needed to build up a registry of conservation covenants.

The objectives of this project are:

• to develop a research methodology,
• to develop a digital method of recording the covenant information, and
• to prepare a project outline to obtain all of the information available for Bowen Island.
