In early June 2025 the Conservancy developed a submission to the OCP Steering Committee as part of the OCP Review Process. We made several recommendations grouped into two categories, and laid out our reasoning:
- Conservation as a key consideration in planning and development on the island. We recommend that Municipal planning and decision-making adopt a proactive and strategic approach to the conservation of island water resources and biodiversity that utilizes available mapping of groundwater recharge areas, surface water “green infrastructure”, and biodiversity values.
- Cooperation and assistance from the Municipality regarding Conservancy lands. We want to continue and enhance our collaboration with the Municipality concerning covenants, tax exemptions, management assistance through enacting and enforcing bylaws, and on-the-ground assistance.
